The Old Rugged Cross

On a hill far away
Stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
How I love that old cross
Where the Dearest and Best
For a world of lost sinners was slain

Two pieces of wood formed the old rugged cross...
that stood on that hill far away
it held the King of Kings that day
one represent the evil of man &
one for the redemption of any willing soul.
Two pieces of wood one going upward for God's love
& one reached out to all man kind.
The two pieces of wood met at the heart of our LORD,
joining human needs and mercy from above.
What compaision and patience our LORD bore for us ,
that day, as he hung by nails on two pieces of wood,
we now know as the cross.

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it someday for a crown

Oh that old rugged cross
So despised by the world
Has a wondrous attraction for me
For the Dear Lamb Of God
Left His Glory above
To bare it to dark Calvary

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it someday for a crown

Then He'll call me someday
To my home far away
Where His Glory forever I'll share

So I'll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it someday for a crown

I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it someday for a crown
